Things we consider when designing your system
All homes are different, Which is why we look at your underfloor heating system from the ground up. Feel free to talk to a team member about what your property currently has, and how much floor height you have. And with a few more details we can advise on the best system for your home whether that be for a floating floor, a new build screed or exposed/covered joists.
The pipework loops have a restricted length, meaning that a continuous loop cannot be simply installed. The purpose of this is to ensure that the water temperature and pumped pressure are maintained throughout the pipework coil. Simply UFH calculates the complete need for pipework coils and presents it in a coil cut table, which also assists the installer in reducing wastage and off-cuts.
For wet underfloor heating, it is advisable to use pipework that is explicitly intended for this purpose. The underfloor heating pipe should effectively and uniformly transfer heat rather than act as an insulator, which is the intended function of some plumbing pipes. We supply 16mm pipe and 12mm underfloor heating pipe. These diameters will affect the flow rate and thus a multitude of other factors when designing your underfloor heating system.
Typically, the spacing between each pipe run is 200mm or 150mm depending on the heat source, but this may vary in certain cases with either wider or narrower spacing depending on the heat loss of the area. Large areas of glazing or poor insulation values will negatively impact heat loss. Our designs come with a table that specifies flow rates and service temperatures to ensure the most efficient heat system possible.
To ensure that the pumped pressure and water temperature are maintained throughout the pipework coil, the length of each pipework loop is restricted, meaning that a continuous loop cannot be installed. Simply UFH calculates the total demand for pipework coils and presents it in a coil cut table, which also assists the installer in reducing waste and off-cuts.
To ensure that the required zoning is accommodated, the UFH design must consider the proposed heating control areas when planning the pipework layout. Simply UFH provides various control options, such as the Heatmiser NeoStat, a sleek and modern smart thermostat for underfloor heating that can be operated remotely using the NeoApp on any smart device among many other options!
It is advisable to take into account the placement of appliances, such as toilets or kitchen units (if food products are stored in them), as UFH pipework should generally not run beneath them. Additionally, we suggest avoiding the installation of UFH pipework under shower trays as this may cause unpleasant odours in the shower trap.
It is crucial to consider the type of floor covering before installing underfloor heating since some floor coverings are more suitable for use with underfloor heating than others. The UFH design factors in the resistance rating (usually measured in ‘TOG’) to ensure that the heat output remains adequate while taking this resistance into account.
